I’m declaring February 14th as the official day that Dakota 1st laughed! I was changing her diaper today and heard what I would call her 1st laugh. Last night when I was playing with her on the playmat I heard a small laugh but it only happened 1x and it was very quick and quiet. But today’s was definitely a laugh! Makes me smile and laugh when I hear it. She has definitely become a more smiley kid recently. She’s quite the serious baby sometimes so it’s nice to see her smile more and now laugh. We’re still working on getting her sufficient amount of tummy time so she can learn to roll over…
Skylar and Dakota’s stats from their checkups on Friday:
Skylar height- 33″ (5th percentile- she lost about an inch from her last measurement b/c she was measured standing up vs laying down. The ped said kids always lose an inch the 1st time they’re measured standing up. She also got weighed using the big-girl scale for the 1st time too!
Skylar weight- 22 1/2 lbs- still not on the curves but she made a big jump closer to being on the curves! So the dr was very happy w/ her weight gain. Her head is still in the 50th percentile (not sure of the exact measurement)
Dakota height- 25 1/2″ (somewhere between the 75th and 90th percentile)- tall girl! Dr. Tom again asked Chris and I how tall we are and said that I’m 2″ above the avg for women (I’m 5’6″ which is the 75th percentile) and Chris is 2″ below the avg for men (he’s 5’8″ which is the 25th percentile) so our kids will most likely fall somewhere in that range.
Dakota weight- 15lb 4oz- somewhere around the 80th percentile- quite the big girl
But that’s actually lighter than any of us were guessing. Chris and I both thought somewhere in the 16lb range and both grandmoms thought 17lbs. She’s wearing 6mos size clothes these days so that’s QUITE different from Skylar.
We had a good weekend. Friday night was pizza night, of course. Saturday AM Chris went w/ his mom over to his grandfather’s house to clear a path for a new heater to be installed on Monday. Then Saturday night we went out to dinner to celebrate my parents’ 45th anniversary! Wow- 45 years. Congrats mom and dad! We went to the Concordville Inn with my parents, Karen, Lisa, John, the girls and Marilyn and John who are visiting from CO for a long weekend. We had quite the group and had a wonderful evening. Sunday was Ellie and Hannah’s 5th birthday party- they had a bowling party and we had a blast! Skylar LOVED bowling. I had no idea she’d love it so much- maybe we’ll have to go again. She picked the 6lb ball right up (tried the 8lb ball too but I was afraid she’d drop that on her toe) and walked to the lane and tossed the ball (she must’ve been watching everyone else!). At 1st we didn’t have one of the ramps that others were using so we had to put it on the ground and push the ball. I helped her push the ball the 1st time but the 2nd time she did it by herself and MAN did it take FOREVER to get down to the pins! So the rest of the times I gave her a helping push after she pushed it just to speed things up. Then we got a ball ramp for our lane so Skylar could push the ball down the ramp. While everyone was eating cake after singing Happy Birthday, Skylar and Daddy wnet back to the lanes to bowl some more! She loved it. I sent out the photos on Kodak Gallery so I”m not going to share any here.
Chris assembled the jumperoo thing last weekend too and Dakota spent some time in it- at first she wasn’t quite sure what to do but now she’s getting the hang of starting to bounce. I also noticed the other day that she’s really starting to reach for things and grab them (and bring them straight to her mouth!)- prior to that she had just been looking at them but not reaching for them. Still no rolling over for her. I’m trying to get her some more tummy time so maybe she’ll start rolling over. Right now she really enjoys laying on her back on the playmat reaching and grabbing for the toys. Laying on her tummy isn’t as exciting b/c she hasn’t gotten the hang of reaching out in front of her to grab a toy. Skylar still loves covering Dakota with a burp cloth (a “blankie” as Skylar calls it) and pat-pat-patting her. She also loves pat-patting everyoen else too! Last night when she got home from school she had Gramma Bonnie and me laying on the floor and was patting both of us. I think we both could’ve fallen asleep on the floor there while she was patting us
Chris was in the kitchen making dinner so he missed out on the patting.
Tonight I”m actually going to a sorority alumnae gathering thing at Villanova U. with Carrie and Rachel. It seems like they’re thinking of starting a chapter there so we (Carrie, Rachel and I) thought we’d check it out to see what it’s all about. No plans for this weekend yet- maybe we’ll get back to some unpacking. Oh yeah- Chris brought the dining room table from his grandfather’s house last weekend so now we have a dining room table! How exciting. Of course, right now it’s covered with tax documents… but maybe one day we’ll eat a meal at it
Hope everyone’s having a good week.
