Skylar’s latest trick is to “blow raspberries” at us.  I think I noticed her doing that on Tuesday?  So I grabbed the camera and tried to capture it on video… it came out sorta well.

And she fell asleep on Monday or Tuesday after I fed her in the afternoon/evening so I put her in the pack and play to take a quick powernap.  When she woke up she was just chillin’ out so I decided to actually put the mobile on (previously we had it off and just sitting in the corner) and she was mesmerized by it.  So I took a quick video of her just staring at it totally entranced.

All my co-workers know that I insist that Chris go visit Skylar everyday and send me a picture so everyone asks me “Did you get your picture today?” and my co-worker Don’s comment on this picture was “She certainly has a set of jowels (sp?) on her!  She’s adorable!”

In other events, last night was a MUCH better night of sleep.  Thank god!  She went to sleep at 10pm and slept til 5:15am when I had to wake her up.  Aaaah, much more rested.

Actually, I’m not THAT tired but I just thought that sounded more dramatic than “…really really tired” 

Skylar had an off sleeping night last night for some reason.  She ate/drank really well yesterday (back to her usual 5-6oz per feeding) but then was very unrestful during the night.  Chris brought her upstairs to put her to bed (she’s still in the bassinet in our room- we’re WAY too lazy to put her in her crib in her room and possibly have to GET OUT OF BED to go check on her during the middle of the night if she cries!) at about 11pm (I think- I was already asleep and barely glanced at the clock when he came in) and she was making noises by 2am.  Yuck!  She wasn’t really awake but was tossing and turning in her sleep and making “crying noises”.  So I’d reach over, put the pacifier back in (yes, I know that’s just a crutch to use!), and rub her belly/shoulder/cheek/whatever but then about 30 min later she’d be tossing and turning and making noises again.  Since she wasn’t awake we assumed she wasn’t hungry.  She didn’t stink like she had a dirty diaper… so who knows.  I think I saw every hour of the night last night- ugh.  And at 4am she was actually semi-awake and half-crying so I picked her up and held her/rocked her til she went back to sleep.  And, wouldn’t you know it- when the alarm clock went off at 5:15am (ugh!!!) the little stinker was sound asleep!  So I had to wake her up to get her dressed and feed her.  Figures…

So, yeah, Chris and I are pretty tired today after yet another not-so-good night of sleep!  Her eating is back to “normal” but not the sleeping part.  That makes 3 nights in a row of not-so-good sleeping on her part.  I hope this doesn’t become a habit!

Our weekend wasn’t very exciting.  Unfortunately, Chris had to work on both Saturday and Sunday so most of his weekend was spent in the office- yuck!  Friday night he was too tired to go to his ice hockey game so we just chilled- Chris napped in the recliner with Skylar.  On Saturday I headed up to Longmont to visit my friends Bill and Jen and their 2 sons.  I was returning all the maternity clothes Jen loaned me (thanks Jen!!!!) in hopes of trying to clean out the guest bedroom to get it ready for Chris’ parents.  They’re coming for Thanksgiving- so are Lisa, John and the girls but they’re staying in Greeley.  So I spent a couple hours in Longmont and then headed back to C Rock.  It was starting to snow but the roads weren’t bad at all.  Since Chris was working during the day we recorded the Penn State vs Indiana football game and watched it Saturday night.  It wasn’t a very exciting game so I was yawning and ready for bed by 10pm!  Chris had the late-night feeding that night thank goodness!

Speaking of late night feeding, Chris was really unlucky on Sat night.  Skylar was asleep from about 7:30pm til 11pm but when she woke up she had absolutely no interest in eating at all.  So Chris was up til about 1:30am trying to get her to drink her bottle.  Poor Chris!  I had been able to get her to finish her bottle while I was at Bill/Jen’s house during the day but she was super slow and it was painful- but she drank it at least!  Then again on Sunday she was pretty cranky about not drinking her bottle- who knows what was going on with her…

And, man oh man, did I learn a lesson on Sunday night!  She had a late nap (from about 3-5pm) so I was attempting to keep her up til about 8pm and then give her a bath, feed her and put her to bed earlier.  She drank all 6oz in the bottle and was looking pretty sleepy but then she totally woke up at the end and was alert and seemed like she wanted more.  So I decided to make a couple more ounces using the nightime formula (it’s a thicker formula designed to keep her belly feeling fuller longer)- man was that a BAD idea!  She was kinda fussy when I started giving her that bottle so I figured it was just her usual fussiness at night- so I went upstairs to her room where there was less noise and distractions.  As soon as I sat down with her in the recliner she became a geyser!  I’m pretty sure several ounces came out of her and went all over her and me!  It even came out her nose!  I felt so bad for her!  I’m not 100% sure that it was the mixing of the formulas that did it but it seems pretty logical (in hindsight!) that that was a bad plan and one should not mix formula types!  Lesson learned.  So that was at ~9pm when she spewed and it took us/me til about 10pm to get her cleaned up and calmed down enough to drink a little more and then fall asleep.  Jeez- what a night.

And, then, of course, she woke up in the middle of the night hungry (b/c she only drank about 2oz after we cleaned her up but I”m pretty sure about 4oz had come out of her)- so I fed her at about 1:30am and she had 2 more ounces.  And then in the AM we couldn’t get her to drink much either- she only had about 3oz (when she usually does about 5-6oz per feeding).  So we were wondering what was going on with her!  But Chris just emailed me to let me know she had a full bottle at 9:30am at daycare- whew!  Hopefully she’ll be back to her usual self!

Oh yeah- we got a bunch of snow on Sunday- probably ~12inches.  So I didn’t leave the house at all on Sunday- did some laundry, vacuumed, played with Skylar and watched some football (darn Broncos and Eagles losing!).  I cooked a London Broil, baked potatoes and green beans for dinner on Sunday and it was yummy- if I do say so myself!  So, overall, a very uneventful weekend but a weekend is better than any day at work!!!

And 1 last final note- I don’t think I wrote this in any of my other blog posts but HB tore her ACL the other week.  I think it was last Friday, 11/6.  I had gotten home from work early-ish (well, before the sun went down anyway) and went outside to clean up the dog run (yuck!).  I let the dogs out in the yard to run and play and then later that night I noticed that HB was really limping and wouldn’t put any weight on her back, right leg.  I figured/hoped that it was just because she’s getting older and played too hard.  But when she still wouldn’t put any weight on her leg Saturday we decided to take her to the vet.  We were kinda scared into taking her to the vet because of our friend Naveen’s experience with his Golden, Benny.  Benny is a couple years older than our dogs (I think he was 12) and he tripped going down the stairs and hurt his leg on a Saturday.  So Naveen took him to the emergency vet place on Saturday and they told him Benny broke his leg and did some other tests and found out he had cancer as well.  Then Benny went downhill quickly on Sunday so Naveen took him back to the vet ER where they decided to keep him overnight.  Naveen got a call at about 1am saying to hurry up and come say good bye because it looked like the end was near for Benny.  Naveen got to the vet ER just in time to say goodbye to Benny and then he was gone.  I was literally crying when I read Naveen’s email telling what had happened.  So, since HB is getting older, we decided to take her to the vet that day rather than waiting to see if she’d get better.  They took some xrays and said her ACL was torn- and this was another vet place other than our usual vet since they didn’t have any appointments for Saturday.  We took HB to our usual vet on Tuesday and they confirmed the torn ACL.  So they recommended an ortho dr in the Springs (the SAME ortho vet who operated on Nittany’s shoulder 8 years ago!).  We’ll probably wait til January (after the holidays) to get it fixed.  They told us that we don’t HAVE TO get it fixed but that arthritis would probably set in earlier, she wouldn’t be able to run/play as much if we didn’t.  So- anywho- there’s another exciting story with the dogs.  If it’s not HB’s liver, it’s her torn ACL!  And I had a co-worker way back when Nittany had his surgery done who had a chocolate lab as well and he tore both his ACLs.  She took her dog to the ortho vet in the Springs (she’s the 1 who recommended this guy to me) and loved him- she also said that he told her that once your dog tears 1 ACL there’s a much better chance that they’re going to tear the other one.  Ugh.  I wonder if they give you a discount on that 2nd surgery???? Doubt it.

Skylar had her 4-month checkup appointment yesterday.  She weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs 10 oz (gained 2 oz since Friday’s appointment!) and 22 1/4 inches in length.  Her head was 15 3/4″.  That puts her in the 5% for weight, the 3% for height and the 25% for head size.  She’s definitely at the bottom of these curves!  The doctor said that if she’s going to make a move on the curves that she’ll most likely do it by her 6-month checkup.  If not, she’ll probably be on the small side long-term.  I guess that’s not necessarily a bad thing- the pediatrician wasn’t worried about her weight so I guess I shouldn’t be either.  The rest of her checkup went well- all was good with her.  She got 2 shots and an oral vaccine- I can’t remember right now what they were but they were the same ones as her 2-month checkup.  She did much better with the shots this time.  She cried of course but it took much less time to calm her down than last time!!!

She slept in the car after her appointment on the way down to the Springs.  I dropped her off at daycare and stayed to feed her her mid-morning bottle and then headed down to work.  We had given her some Tylenol before her shots in hopes of avoiding the crankiness we experienced with her after her 2-month vaccinations.  It seemed to do the trick because the daycare ladies said she just seemed sleepy during the day- not cranky.  She did OK last night too- her schedule was a bit off so she missed 1 of her bottles but I figured she would survive for 1 day.  I gave her a bath and fed her her last bottle at 8:30pm and she was asleep by 9:15pm and slept thru til 5:15am this morning!  Yay!  I was in bed by 9:30pm last night to take advantage of the extra sleep!  (After checking Facebook of course and playing FarmVille for a little bit!  I’m totally addicted to that game right now!  It’s a bad thing… I had to harvest my crops before going to bed last night so I didn’t lose any of my crops!)

I’m totally looking forward to the weekend of course.  Unfortunately, Chris has to work tomorrow and the weather is supposed to turn nasty (the high for yesterday was 72!) so I’m looking for something to get me out of the house (providing it isn’t a blizzard outside!  just kidding… we’re not supposed to get much accumulation- that I’ve heard of anyway…)  No major plans for the weekend- just resting as much as possible to catch up on sleep that we miss out on during the week.

Nothing too exciting happened this weekend.  Skylar developed some pretty good butt/diaper rash so we made an appointment with the pediatrician on Friday to get it checked out.  He said it’s nothing serious and to just put some Neosporin on it and try to keep her butt dry to let it heal.  Chris and I do a good job of keeping it dry at home but the rash seems to develop after going to daycare… guess we just gotta keep reminding them to dry her butt before putting the diaper on.  The pediatrician says rashes can develop and go away depending on how her body digests stuff.  He said they do like to keep an eye on nasty rashes though just to make sure it’s not a staph (spelling?) infection- and this one doesn’t look like that… whew!  They weighed her during her appointment on Friday and she was 10lbs 5oz- I thought for sure she’d be over 11lbs!  I’m trying not to get worried about her weight- the ped. said we take a closer look at it on Thursday, 11/12 when she has her “official” 4-month checkup appointment to look at the charts to see if she’s on-track.  Chris and I also got the H1N1 vaccination on Friday at the pediatrician’s office- they gave us the nasal spray- let’s hope it works and helps Skylar avoid getting sick!  Chris and I now both have both the seasonal and H1N1 vaccinations.  Friday night Chris had his hockey game- again, Skylar and I didn’t go with him.  I don’t really remember what I did that night- I think just odds and ends around the house and then tried to fall asleep for a little bit before Skylar’s last feeding at 10:30pm. 

Saturday was football of course- a very disappointing day!  Penn State lost and Iowa lost- what’s up with the Big Ten???  Skylar had on her Penn State outfit but we also decided to put on her Tennesee bib so she could spit on that instead of her PSU outfit

I also propped the Boppy up against the back of the couch so Skylar could “sit up”- and I can’t remember if I mentioned this in an earlier post or not but Skylar is already addicted to the TV!  She definitely turns her head and will watch whatever’s moving on the screen… not a good sign, huh?  Anyway, so I propped her up and put the remote in her hand so it looks like she’s really watching TV

Saturday night we went out to dinner with some friends at an irish pub up near the Denver Tech Center (about halfway between Castle Rock and Denver)- here’s a picture of Katie holding Skylar:

Sunday was another pretty uneventful but nice day- we went for a walk to the grocery store and did our shopping, we watched a movie (“The Proposal” with Sandrea Bullock- very cute), and went to REI, Best Buy and Target.  Fun day!

I was just re-reading my post about last weekend and realized I left out 1 very important detail!  We heard Skylar laugh for real for the first time!!!!  It was on Saturday when we were at Grandpa Joe’s house and I was upstairs changing her and talking to her when all of a sudden she just started laughing… I yelled for Chris to come up and bring the video camera so we could try to catch it on video- how exciting!  I can’t believe I forgot to mention this in my weekend recap… jeez, old age is affecting me
